Pure, whole foods and sound nutrition serves to  prevent allergies and disease, not just for humans, but for
our pets.
Keep your dogs OUT of the vet's office and OFF drugs for good by realizing that most
mass-produced, commercially available pet foods are the equivalent of junk food... some slightly better than
others, but still not so good.

This site is very informative and important! We should never blindly trust the vet or the commercial dog food
claims without researching what we are feeding and administering to our pets. To do so has resulted in so
very many dogs I've known to end up with cancer, kidney disease and chronic ear and skin allergies. Most
of our dogs' illness is a direct result of commercial dog foods (vet recommended!) based on ingredients
dogs cannot digest such as corn and wheat, and all the chemicals and preservatives added to these foods.
Corn and wheat are the TOP TWO ingredients dogs become allergic to. This is well-documented! So why
are most foods made with it? They are cheap fillers. When dogs react to these foods- whether it's a skin
problem or kidney disease-  there is always a "special diet" your vet will recommend. See the pattern? Dogs
don't get these very common diseases on a whole, pure diet. Dogs don't need "special diets" nearly as
much as your vet wants you to believe. Your dog simply needs whole, quality food. Like people do for
optimum health and healthy weight! These common diseases in dogs are huge industries in themselves!
Also, sadly, many vets will not bother to ask owners of dogs with allergies what they feed them!! Instead,
they put the dog on an endless cycle of medication. It's a cycle that never ends
and your vet loves you (and
your pocketbook) for it
. Medication and illness, medication and illness. The poor diet, medications and
unnecessary vaccines continue to suppress the dogs immune system so it can't possibly do its job. Many
medications have serious side effects as wel
l. When your vet is no longer actually improving your dog's
health it's time to realize it could be something in the food. It's really that simple much of the time, yet many
people don't want to believe it for some reason.

Another health hazard for dogs is that many vets will not hesitate to vaccinate pets that have allergic
reactions to vaccines. I know one personally and I'm very disappointed as I used to trust this vet. THIS IS
HARMFUL TO YOUR DOG!!! Just because reactions "are relatively common" doesn't make it right! These
same vets will not hesitate to vaccinate a sick or elderly dog
or a dog fighting a disease or allergy. These
vets ARE NOT CONCERNED FOR THE WELL- BEING OF YOUR DOG!! These vets are more concerned
with the gravy train of money that vaccines generate. Consumer Reports did an excellent story on this in the
July 2003 issue. These sites explain this issue in detail as well.
click here and here and here. VERY
important stuff.

I am very passionate about the
se things because I've seen too many clients learn the hard and
heart-breaking way that the vet they trusted for so many years actually led to their precious pet's
deterioration. These are people who will never again feed "vet recommended" Science Diet or other
convenience processed "food."
These people now go to vets who understand about the dangers of
over-vaccinating and commercial foods.
Don't spend hundreds of dollars at your vet later when you can
spend a little more on quality food up front and prevent
most diseases and allergies that never existed when
the family dog ate table scraps and meaty bones - before commercial dog foods were around. Remember,
DOGS ARE CARNIVORES! Corn and wheat- the main ingredients in most kibble- are not good for dogs.

If your dog has problems that won't clear up, I know two holistic veterinarians whose amazing results I've
seen first hand. Call for their numbers. If it's skin or ear problems, many times just switching to raw or even
an all natural dry food makes these problems disappear. If you are a veterinarian who thinks outside the
box and knows about actual evolutionary nutrition for dogs and the importance of NOT feeding cooked,
processed corn, wheat, soy, rendered by-products, artificial colors and flavors, PLEASE call me! I am going
to compile a list of knowledgeable and trustworthy veterinarians to put on this site.

If you must feed processed, dry food, there are many, many decent dry foods on the market that are made
with quality ingredients. The problem is, they aren't available everywhere. I feed
my dogs Urban Wolf,
natural dry food that I now carry or my frozen raw food... the BARF diet. They get a variety of dog and
human food such as yogurt, eggs, some cheese and chicken wings (raw.) The more raw the better. Read
"Give Your Dog a Bone" by Dr. Ian Billinghurst. Can be found at Amazon.com or I can get it locally for you. It
explains how to feed without even using a commercial diet. My clients who have switched to raw are
reporting amazing results, especially in older dogs or dogs with skin and ear allergies. They are wishing
they had switched much sooner and saved years of money and medicine at the vet office.

The most important thing you can do is be KNOWLEDGEABLE about what you're feeding your pets. Make
INFORMED decisions and don't believe the hype created by the commercial dog food companies. It's not
worth it. And, yes, I know you like your vet. They can be so nice and seem so knowledgeable. Their
continuing education conventions are all about winning your trust and setting prices as high as possible. I
know this first hand.
"We are told that processed foods aren't good for us and advised to eat whole, fresh foods and vary our
diets in order to stay healthy. Conversely, we are told to NEVER feed whole, fresh foods to our pets, to never
vary their diets, and not to upset the careful balance of the processed diet they are supposed to eat every
day of their lives. Does this make sense?

Only to the pet food manufacturers. To them, it makes sense and it makes money.
That is why pet food
manufacturers finance vet training programs and subsidize vet school clinics.
Some vets only know
what
the kibble makers tell them, and pass that on to their clients: eat the processed diet. Don't eat table
scraps. Don't feed raw meat. Don't give bones." Read this entire
article.

The vets who know these foods such as Science Diet are full of allergens have simply sold out to the food
companies. They get big perks, kickbacks and trips. The ones who haven't figured it out... well, it's just sad.
These are the reasons why your vet recommends Science Diet or Iams or Eukanuba. They may be
well-intentioned, but more often than not, they don't really know anything about nutrition. They know
symptom suppression, not disease prevention . Again, there are many vets who DO know these things and
they DO NOT sell Science Diet. They are quoted all over the internet and in other sources, such as the
Whole Dog Journal. Unfortunately, I just know of two in the KC area.

If you ask your vet about feeding raw- beware. Many know nothing about it and will tell you your dog can get
bacteria illnesses from the food. Well, they should know dogs are made differently from humans. They don't
get sick from raw food like humans can because their digestive systems are naturally designed to eat raw
meat. Their digestive juices are made up of hydrocloric acid. This acid is for digesting meat and bone!
People are naturally alkaline... meaning we're really designed to eat plant life, fruit, nuts and seeds- not
meat. Dogs eat animals in the wild- meat and bone. They are decendants of the wolf and they are
carnivores! (Actually, they're omnivores, but will readily eat other animals if they are available.) I had a vet
tell me that raw chicken wings, backs, and legs will give a dog salmonella. Well, if that were true my dogs
would be very sick by now. I've been feeding them raw over two years now. I've heard no negative feedback
from my clients- who are thrilled at the excellent health their dogs are displaying. Almost all of these dogs
(with few exceptions) are completely off all medications. The dogs are no longer toxic and are displaying
superior health! I've heard time and time again, "I wish I had done this sooner!"
Don't wait until your dog is
sick to feed a high quality food. Again, the more raw or dehydrated, the better!!

Urban Wolf is highly recommended by holistic veterinarians.
